While at the end of the movie, it is revealed that Teddy Daniels is just an alter ego that Andrew Laeddis made up, there is still a lot to learn from his character. The audience has no reason not to trust Teddy. He is introduced as a smart, trustworthy U.S. Marshal and war veteran. However, as the movie continues, his sanity is questioned. For example, he has frequent migraines and odd dreams. He has flashbacks of invading a concentration camp, which we can assume means he has PTSD. He also has questionable flashbacks of a young girl and his wife that are not explained until the end. Teddy is the perfect example of character development. The audience should be questioning his actions and mind set by the end of the movie. Since there have been many instances where he is not acting normally. He is representative of the theme of exploring reality, because he lives in a fantasy world. He does not technically exist. Teddy is just a way to escape the guilt that Laeddis feels.
